LOOSE.fm

I formed and run LOOSE.fm, a grassroots cultural community platform formed around eclectic, experimental, ecstatic sound and culture.

Established in September 2021, LOOSE has over 300+ contributing global DJs and artists, and since July 2025, is now based at London’s innovative Design District, who have acted as an incubator for the project.

Housed in a specifically designed, converted shipping container, complete with giant glowing eyes, this project is intended to be a landmark for culture, community and creative collaboration, hosting live shows, public activations and community-centric events, with a focus on platforming leftfield culture from the grassroots up.

This big green ocularly-appended box will host live shows, public activations and community-centric events, with a focus on platforming leftfield culture from the grassroots up.

As well as streaming globally, programming from the new LOOSE studio will feature shows from its existing grassroots community including Flat Earth Disco, Make A Dance, Leandro Fidelis, Beetroot, Half East Records, Fly Away Hearts, Mark S, Unexpected Items, India Bigg, Frank Radio, CLBRKS, Aloisius, Han+Fran, Rainbow Conspiracy, Balearic Burger, Miro, Here On Earth, Elektraversion, Studio Batsumi, Alpor, Luke (No Clue), Wafa Love, Jeneral Purpose, Des Frutas, Stank, Dylan Gray, Stolen Groove, Something Like That, Jam Jiva, Caspa Mono, Memory Muscle and Discotheque Tropicale – alongside a fresh cast of newcomers including emerging Londoners Miss Mash, Stella Z, Ariane V and Sharifa, and a brand new speech and live podcast strand.

The space around the studio will also be used to bring the wider community together for events that elevate the LOOSE ethos. For the interior, fellow Design District tenants Uncommon Projects have designed and built a banquette seating module, while Wizard Works made and upholstered an accompanying retro-inspired cushion, and design practice DutchScot are creating the station’s unique acoustic baffle backdrop.

Designed in collaboration with architectural innovators CAUKIN Studio - creators of the Skip House project - the new studio design is functional, sustainable and silly, with the LOOSE colour palette spread across repurposed building materials to create the impression of a big dumb face, with eyeballs animated by lighting designer Joshua Space up on the roof and a service window revealing our custom-made DJ booth, to mirror the function of a mouth.

“Our design is infused with wit and humour - where playfulness meets function - as an energetic reflection of LOOSE’s values: eclectic, experimental and ecstatic,” said Joshua Peasley, Co-Founder & Director at CAUKIN Studio. “We’re committed to the use of locally sourced materials, and this project is no exception—an exercise in creative re-imagining through industrial materials, housed in a striking converted shipping container.”

The station is located at the centre of Greenwich Peninsula - that bit in the first few frames of the opening credits of Eastenders - opposite Central Park on the south-east of Design District, a very well connected spot that's mere footsteps away from The O2 Arena; North Greenwich station (Jubilee Line); the cable car to Royal Docks over the river; and the Thames Clipper service, too, for the more adventurous seafarers.

Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries, said: “LOOSE is an ambitious new platform championing new voices, energy and ideas by offering space, visibility and structure for creators who often go unheard. Grassroots work is crucial to our creative ecosystem because it’s where innovation and creativity begin.  We need to do all we can to support activity at this level, and that’s why I’m delighted to wish LOOSE every success with this important project.”

Since launching, LOOSE has given loads of emerging DJs and creators the opportunity to record their first live shows, and we’ve attracted a lot of established names too.  We’re really looking forward to seeing what we can achieve at Design District and what new avenues we can explore on the platform - especially around radio’s true power, which is in the imagination of the listener. And that’s limitless.
